Overview of university course options and routes. Gain further support in identifying appropriate courses aligned with your interests and long-term goals.

How to evaluate universities based on teaching style and course structure, navigating entry requirements, assessing location and student experience, and graduate outcomes.

Step-by-step overview of the application structure and key sections. Support on how to complete and submit an application, including how to link applications to the school or centre.

Gain a practical understanding of how to track application progress, how to respond to offers (conditional/ unconditional) and how to make firm and insurance choices.

Delivered as separate, dedicated sessions alongside Academic Skills, students receive two 1:1 mentoring sessions with lecturers.

Mentoring focuses on:

  1. Refining course and university choices  
  2. Discussing individual goals, strengths, and uncertainties  
  3. Providing tailored advice on next steps and application strategy  

Mentors will also discuss students' learning portfolio, providing personalised feedback and recommendations.

Learning Portfolio integration

Students complete a structured Learning Portfolio throughout the programme. This includes a reflection on subject interests and university options; career exploration and evolving goals; questions for mentoring sessions; final reflections and action planning.  

The Portfolio acts as a record of student development, supporting mentoring discussions and providing a foundation for stronger UCAS applications.  

Preparation for competitive applications

You will receive the support and tools you need to strengthen your profile through independent academic exploration, engagement beyond the classroom and reflection on experiences and interests. 

By the time you complete the programme, you will leave with a competitive application strategy, maximising your chances of securing a place at a top university.
