nnovate Summer Academy is a two-week academic summer programme hosted on the UCL Campus for students aged 15–18. The Academy is designed to bridge the gap between secondary school and competitive university study. Students experience university-style teaching, structured academic skills development, and exposure to leading industries, all within a supportive and highly supervised environment.
The programme is academically rigorous and designed for students who are serious about preparing for top university applications.
Innovate Summer Academy takes place in central London on the UCL Bloomsbury campus. Students study in university teaching spaces and stay in supervised accommodation within walking distance of classrooms, laboratories, and academic facilities.
Innovate is designed for academically motivated students who aspire to attend competitive universities in the UK and internationally. It is particularly suited to students seeking intellectual challenge, structured university preparation, and clarity about future academic pathways.
Innovate is academically focused. While students gain insight into professional pathways through industry visits and masterclasses, the core of the programme centres on academic rigour, critical thinking, and preparation for university-level study.
No. Innovate Summer Academy is delivered fully in person in London.
nnovate is intentionally intensive. Teaching is delivered in small groups of no more than 12 students per faculty, allowing for discussion-based seminars and close interaction with university lecturers. Students are expected to engage actively, contribute to discussions, and complete guided academic tasks.
Teaching sits between advanced GCSE/IGCSE, early A-Level or IB, and introductory undergraduate level. The aim is not simply to extend school learning, but to introduce students to university-style thinking, argumentation, and independent analysis.
Students apply to one of the following academic faculties:
Each faculty follows a structured academic syllabus culminating in a Capstone Project.
All academic teaching is delivered by university lecturers and professors. Innovate does not rely on graduate tutors or teaching assistants as lead instructors.
The Capstone Project is the central academic component of the programme. Across the two weeks, students work in small teams under faculty supervision to develop a solution to a real-world challenge within their chosen discipline. The project concludes with a formal presentation to peers and an academic review panel.
This experience strengthens university applications by demonstrating intellectual engagement, collaboration, and the ability to apply academic theory to practical problems.
Yes. Students receive ongoing feedback throughout the programme. Performance in seminars, engagement in academic tasks, and the quality of the Capstone Project contribute to a final evaluation. Upon completion, students receive an Innovate Certificate, a Report Card, and a Letter of Recommendation from their supervising professor.
Inovar maintains high academic standards, but support structures are in place. If required, the Head of Academy may implement an Academic Success Plan that provides additional mentoring and structured guidance. The environment is designed to challenge students while building confidence and resilience.
Students develop skills directly relevant to competitive applications, including structured argumentation, research analysis, presentation confidence, and academic writing. The Letter of Recommendation and Report Card may also support future applications where appropriate.
Yes. The programme concludes with a formal Capstone Presentation and Certificate Ceremony, marking students’ academic achievements.
Places are limited to a maximum of 12 students per faculty. Applications are reviewed individually, and offers are made on a rolling basis. Early application is strongly recommended, as faculties close once full.
Students begin by submitting an online application form with their basic personal details. As part of the application, they are required to upload a copy of their passport. Applicants must also complete an English assessment to ensure they meet the academic language standard required for the programme. This helps ensure that students are able to participate fully in university-level discussions and written work.
In some cases, applicants may be invited to attend a short online interview. This is an opportunity to assess motivation, academic readiness, and suitability for the intensive learning environment.
Final offers are issued once all documentation has been reviewed and parental consent has been received.
Students must be aged 15–18 at the time of attendance. Those who turn 15 during the calendar year are eligible. All teaching is conducted in English, and students must meet a minimum CEFR B2+ (or equivalent) standard. Admissions decisions are made holistically, considering academic performance, motivation, and readiness for a rigorous academic environment.
There is no fixed deadline. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, and each faculty closes once capacity is reached.
Students may apply for multiple sessions in different faculties, subject to availability and academic suitability.
